Handmade Clocks from Upcycled Records

My name is Laurel Henn. I'm from Olympia Washington and run LaurelsArt. I create clocks from upcycled vinyl records and sell them at local shows and online. I am also a printmaker and painter who believes that everyone has the ability to create if given the right opportunity.

What inspires me?

Stories inspire me. The ability to create stories, and the ability to record stories. Every person has at least one story, every tree has hundreds. Could you imagine being a tree and seeing the world change around you, oh the stories a tree could tell. Imagine what you would see if you stayed put long enough.

Stories are how our ancestors got us to where we are, how history has shaped everything we know. Stories are also an escape from everything we know. The possibilities are endless, and with a little creativity, anything is possible. That is why the power of creativity trumps all. I can go anywhere in my studio with a pencil and paper, or a good book. At the same time there is a lot to be said about experiencing the real world. Without the real world we have no reference for our stories. Balancing the reality and imagination is an important skill that must be instilled upon the people. Embrace life, and embrace your minds creative ability to alter life.

Originally from Taiwan I studied in Europe and Asia gaining a degree in Jewelry Design from the University of the Arts London.

I have loved painting and the creative arts from a very young age. The main body of my work is focused on illustration although I also design and make bespoke jewelry. Experimenting with different materials, style and techniques is a major part of what I do. I draw inspiration from every walk of life; family, friends and travels to name a few. My art is a great source of joy for me and this is something I wish to share with others.

Aside from the works displayed here I have recently started doing commissioned pieces. If you are interested in any of my works or would like me to make something unique for you please get in touch.

The barn sits on an old dairy farm with rolling hills, wild turkeys and fog most mornings. It is the place where many of the items are stored. Inside the barn there's a climate controlled area which bulges with wonderful farm tools, 1950 Ford tractors, cypress wood, silver, leather, antiques and one of a kind collectibles. Take a look at antiques, collectibles, art and real treasures.

At another time in my life, I was an advertising agency owner, copywriter, television commercial producer, grant writer and hurricane recovery coordinator. My first love is photography, always has been and always will be. The pages in my shop reflect a personal collection of thrift shop finds, packed garages, family barns and forgotten attics. Listings and images are as accurate as possible. As with all things vintage there will be imperfections, aging spots, loose threads, some wear and that is what makes vintage wonderful!

WurdeSein "online vintage home decor, housewares & furniture"

Our little Etsy shop is called Wurde Sein [German for “To Be”]. We are long-time friends with a common interest in our love for vintage items of all shapes, sizes, colour and age. Working from home is a desire for both of us doing what we enjoy most, collecting and selling unique antique and vintage items.
With respect to our store name, we wanted to pick a name that describes how we felt about our finds… Our profile sums it up:

“Sein” (Be / To Be) [German]

"Wurde Sein" (Would Be) (wurdesein@gmail.com)

“Mag Sein” (Could Be) (magsein@live.ca)

Why?

All things vintage and antique have, in their time, served a useful purpose,
for more than one person, over many many years.

It has been....

What it could be and would be for someone at this time is up to the buyer;
however, the possibilities prove to be...

We sell a wide variety of vintage and antique items such as kitchenware; housewares, furniture; and collectables. Here are some examples:

Kitchen items such as unique dishes from the 60’s and 70’s; chip n’ dip set; retro egg cups and coffee pots; salt and pepper shakers / spice shakers.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/72961943/vintage-brown-onion-salt-pepper-shaker

We also sell a selection of vintage furniture such as a shelving unit; rustic-vintage folding “theatre” type chairs; old milking stools and ottomans:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/72894252/vintage-ottoman-sewing-footstool
We also carry a variety of vintage home décor items that can be incorporated with one’s modern style such as: lamps / lights; clock(s); vase(s); candle holders; etc. Here’s an example of one our favourite finds:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/74214826/vintage-amber-swag-light

Last but not least, we offer collectables, such as bottles; vintage bells; other glassware, cigarette maker; etc. here’s one example, a glass table-top lighter that we have up for sale at the shop:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/77628349/vintage-glass-tabletop-lighter

With respect to favourite thing about collecting, it’s literally the thrill of seeking and finding something unique. We love old items, we love anything antique and rustic, and every time we’re out looking for new inventory, it feels like Christmas when we find those “perfect” items!

Our inspiration comes from all different directions. Peers who enjoyed collecting and decorating their homes with that certain “rustic” theme was always a huge inspiration; following fellow bloggers and store owners with the same interests, etc. Wherever we can sniff it out we’ll be there! ;-)

My name is Helena Lima. I'm from Brazil but I have been living in Massachusetts, USA for 11 years.
I got into cold porcelain about 3'1/2 years ago.
Cold porcelain is a air dry clay made out of white glue, cornstarch and some other ingredients that you take all of it to the microwave for about 6 minutes and it will be ready after 2 day that the dough has been rest you are ready to work with it. You can create basically anything that you imagination take you from. It dries outside in and it can take days to be totally dry and the finishing looks like porcelain with a soft look and feel to it.
Most of my work comes from various birthday party themes. Crafts is my passion and I hope that one day I'll be able to work solely with crafts. Inspiration comes from anywhere and mostly from cartoons and drawings.

Pamela Bates "Bates Mercantille and Co"

My name is Pamela Bates and I live on the Seacoast of New Hampshire (East coast of the United States) NH, where I’ve lived my whole life with the exception of when I attended college in the Bronx. My husband Garrett is from Dublin and we visit our family there as often as we can. He is my sounding board for all of my ideas (his honesty is very helpful) and supports me in everything I do. I work in my home office and am lucky to have company in the form of one content dog, who can most often be found sleeping soundly by the fire. Creativity is something that has always been a part of my life. I remember selling rocks that I painted pictures on - door to door in my neighborhood. We also had quite a theatrical neighborhood and the gang was always putting on shows that other kids actually paid to see. My parents encouraged creativity and even designated a wall in our basement as our ‘artist wall’, where we could paint whatever we wanted. I have a love for neat vintage items- especially those that look a little time-worn. I like to think about who owned an item before me and what it meant to them. In my other life, I work with small business people to positively position their businesses, which can find me writing, designing logos, postcards, ads or what have you. I easily get lost in design. I like to make things for those I care about whether it's something I design on the computer, like stationery, or something I do with my hands like arts and crafts, or food that makes their bellies happy. I just picked up pencils and pad again and am loving drawing- I’ve been attached to my computer for too long and feels great to be creating in that way again! You will often find me with a camera in my hand taking pictures of just about everything. I find inspiration just about anywhere, whether it’s something somebody says, the beach, a picture I see in a magazine, a line in an old book, a color or a sunset view out our front door. I am never at a loss for finding inspiration for creating. It’s everywhere! Most recently I’ve been designing lots of printable wall art that is sold in our etsy shop. It makes us very happy to be selling to folks all over the world - from Australia to Scotland to North Dakota! It makes me even happier that people like my designs enough to purchase them. It is so wonderful to be doing something that I love, that others appreciate as well. I plan on adding some of my drawings to our shop in the near future, but continue to expand the printable products available through BatesMercantileCo. on etsy. As it often takes a good period of time to finalize design projects for my other business, to be creating, for the sake of creating is very refreshing and good for the soul!

Carrie Poulsen "The Big Brown House"

My name is Carrie. I grew up in Los Angeles, California, but now live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Many years ago I studied graphic design and art history, but have spent most of my adult life raising three children and casually exploring different art and craft processes with them along the way. I spent years making quilts and sewing clothing, learning papermaking and bookbinding. In the past few years, I've made the time to get serious again about creating, and have found myself drawn to to creating with recycled materials, especially creating felt out of cast-off wool sweaters. I've had a great time participating in local craft shows, and sell on Etsy under the name bigbrownhouse. I'm inspired by stories, especially the stories merely suggested by old and well-used objects. I like mystery. But I also like bright, unapologetic color.

Handmade baskets shoes and other fruits of my cheer

I'm Klara Szilagyi, an architect, who specializes in historic buildings and interior design. I am always looking for new ways into creativity. I live in the middle of Europe; that is in Budapest, Hungary. I was born and raised in Transylvania, which region’s craft traditions give me a lot of inspiration ever since.
I like working mainly with natural fibers, new and old that give me a lot of joy. I love the smell, the touch and the shine of natural materials, and I enjoy combining leftover pieces just as well as working with new ones. I spend a lot of time on searching for the right shape, function and the right combination of materials, which fit the most the character and the beauty of a certain fabric. This results sometimes in weeks passing by just looking at the material and moving it from one corner of the room to another one, before I actually start working with it. The items I make, usually emerge and evolve during this process, which means that every piece becomes unique on its own.
In both architecture and sewing I like the simple and the functional. I believe that just a few things are enough to transform the atmosphere of a room and make it a home.it is a fact that just a few beautiful and at the same time practical items can enhance our comfort and make us feel better.

Eleni Pavlou "Ergani weaving"

I am Eleni Pavlou and I live in Poros, a small island in Greece. I bought my loom in 1998 and I've started the workshop ERGANI. Weaving is the creative platform from which I express myself and communicate my ideas. My inspiration derives from my children and from the traditional Greek designs that I combine with contemporary elements to give a rich cloth in texture and colour.
